A Note on Biblical Translation
Throughout this project, we have wrestled with Baldwin’s words. We have tried, in general, to avoid his use of “man” as a universal indication of all people. This is not a universal term, though he certainly intended it to be universal, and we use “humanity” or, more theologically, “creation,” as universal designations whenever we can. Baldwin’s Bible was the King James version, and his allusions to scripture often invoke this translation. Quotations from scripture in this project are mostly taken from the New Revised Standard Version, with appreciation for its gender inclusive language.
